Community Clean-Up Day: A Resounding Success in Mandara
The sun was shining brightly as 15 dedicated community members gathered at the Wallis Road and Eastern Road intersection this Friday, April 4th, for our Community Clean-Up Day. What followed was an inspiring display of community spirit and environmental stewardship that left our streets noticeably cleaner.
An Impressive Turnout
Led by members of the Mandara Association of Ratepayers and Residents (MARR) committee including Chairperson Michael Musandu, Secretary Helen Mutasa, and Committee Members Bakhethisi Mlalazi and Kim Michael (who also serves as Zone 5 Leader), the group was joined by other zone leaders including Wendy Coles (Zone 8) and Tsitsi Dangarebizi (Zone 6).
Remarkable Results
The team’s efforts yielded impressive results – a total of 50 bags of rubbish collected in just two hours! The clean-up began at the Wallis Road and Harare Drive intersection, with volunteers working their way down to Pringle Road and Harare Drive. The latter intersection alone accounted for 20 bags of collected waste, highlighting how much impact focused community action can have.
Generous Support
Our community clean-up wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of local businesses. MedNet Health Cover Consultants kindly donated three cases of water and sunscreen to keep our volunteers hydrated and protected. LS Waters also contributed two cases of water, ensuring everyone stayed refreshed throughout the morning.
Looking Forward
The success of this clean-up day serves as a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together. Our neighborhood’s appearance and environmental health directly reflect our community values and pride in where we live.
We encourage all Mandara residents to participate in future clean-ups and, importantly, to maintain the cleanliness of our neighborhood on a daily basis. Small individual actions—properly disposing of waste, picking up litter when you see it, or encouraging neighbors to do the same—collectively create a significant impact.
Let’s build on this momentum and continue to make Mandara a cleaner, more beautiful place to live. Together, we can create the community we all deserve.
When is the next clean-up day? Stay tuned for announcements from the MARR committee!
